What if church wasn't just a place to go? what if "church" was a verb? Changing "church" into a verb is a
goal for the United Methodist Church. See how you can help.
Shepherd of the Hills provides Christian education opportunities for all ages. Sunday school programs, mid-week Bible studies and
specialty classes help the congregation learn more about their Lord.
SHUMC offers classes for all ages of children. The kids are separated by age, with classes for preschool-age
children and for elementary ages.
We provide traditional Christian lessons so that children learn about the
important stories from the Bible, the teachings and miracles of Jesus and the gift of God's grace for all humankind.
Classes include lessons, crafts and music. We invite your children to join us each Sunday at 9:45 a.m.
Grades six through 12 meet each week in our youth room at 9:45 a.m. for discussions about God's love, living
the kind of life Christ seeks from us and how to cope with the many challenges and pressures our youth face.
The youth take part in a variety of lessons aimed at preparing them for life as adults so that they learn now how to handle the decisions
that they will have to make as adults and even as they interact with others at school, work and in other settings.
Lifelong Learning: We Offer
Classes For Adults, Too
We offer two classes for adults each Sunday at 9:45 a.m. We invite you to visit both to determine which is
the better fit for you.
Sunday Bible Study: This class is centered on the Bible, and it then expands to discussion about how
to apply what is learned. Topics have included in-depth lessons about God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, among others. The class incorporates
the Bible, discussion and videos on a regular basis.
Christian Journey: We all are on a journey, a walk with Christ. This class
examines a variety of topics aimed at helping you sort through where you are on your walk with Jesus. This class looks at topics for
several weeks, but each class is self-contained, so drop in at any time.
Jesus called all of his followers -- including those of us today -- to be disciples. SHUMC offers Disciple
Bible Study classes on a regular basis. Some of these courses take more than 30 weeks to complete. Disciple I, which provides an overview
of the Bible and culminates with a heightened awareness of the student's spiritual gifts, is required for participation in subsequent
courses.
Call the church office to learn more about which classes will be offered and when.
Mid-Week Education Offerings
SHUMC provides Bible studies and other classes at different times throughout the week. Classes
include classes that take in
depth looks at books of the
Bible, courses on Methodist
history, world religions and
more.
Check this site and the
bulletin for schedules.
CHRISTIAN JOURNEY: The class is studying the book "Seeing Gray in a World of Black and White," by Adam Hamilton. This study
will take place in the Chapel in the education building.
ADULT BIBLE STUDY: The adult Sunday school Bible study will begin a
study titled "Old Testament Stories from the Back Side" beginning Sept. 26.
DISCIPLE CLASS: A short-term Disciple class
on an Invitation to Romans will begin Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. The class will meet Thursdays for eight weeks and will compare what Paul writes
along with the views of Luther and Calvin.
YOUTH CLASS: The youth Sunday School is starting a series of lessons about stories
from the Bible. These are the stories kids learn early in Sunday School, but now the same stories will be discussed for context and
to bring a deeper meaning.
