The SHUMC Chancel Choir represented the state of Utah in a choral festival featuring patriotic songs in our nation's capital.
The Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church Chancel Choir represented the church and Utah at the National
Memorial Day Choral Festival in Washington, D.C., over the holiday weekend in 2009.
The choir sang as part
of a mass choir in the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and it performed with country star Lee Greenwood in a rendition of
"God Bless the USA" on the steps of the National Archives as part of the national parade festivities.
The
choir also provided some impromptu music at the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial and the National Cathedral.
A group of 35 members and friends of the church traveled the nation's capital for the festivities. The group toured the National
Cathedral
and had the opportunity to take part in the laying of a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery.
The choir and guests also toured some of our nation's monuments and other attractions, such as the Smithsonian Institution on the
National Mall.
Rev. Buddy Herrington, a retired Air Force colonel, took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns.
