WORSHIP SERVICES
CHURCH HISTORY
Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church
11 a.m. Worship Service
This service offers a more traditional form of worship. Besides the sermon, the congregation takes part in
responsive readings and sings hymns accompanied by an organist.
The congregation takes part in responsive
readings and a time of prayer. A children's sermon is delivered by the pastor near the beginning of the service.
Acolytes - usually children from second to sixth grade - light the candles as a symbol of the Holy Spirit's
presence during the service.
This service also features the Chancel Choir, which rehearses at 7 p.m. Tuesdays
at the church. Besides the weekly traditional service, the choir prepares special presentations for the Easter and Christmas seasons.
The choir also performs in the community at events such as the Community Expo and as part of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints Concert Series at the St. George Tabernacle. In February of 2007, the Chancel Choir was one of 12 choirs
nationwide invited to participate in the 2007 Wesley Choral Festival in Avery Fisher Hall at the Lincoln Center in New York City to
commemorate the 300th anniversary of the birth of Charles Wesley.
